Agroponiente brought together farmers from organic farming

Agroponiente has closed a new season for organic production and, before the end of it, Agroponiente held a meeting with some farmers who had joined this line, to take stock of the season and exposing the guidelines of the future, in the medium and short term.

In this meeting also some lines were drawn for next season, reviewing the peculiarities of the project and the fundamental characteristics of this production line of the company.

The fundamental conclusion that was exposed was that Agroponiente is in the take-off of its project of organic production, but, at the same time, the good numbers in this season which represent a support for the project and above all, recognition to continue to strengthen year after year.

At the meeting, the CEO of Agroponiente, Antonio Escobar; Responsible for Organic Production, Diego Oller; and Gregorio Monsalvo, specialist in organic farming took part on it. The specialist in organic farming was in charge of give an overview of the peculiarities of organic farming in every way, from field preparation and choice of varieties, to the care of the crop itself.

The balance of the season just ended was one of the basic points of the meeting highlighting the growth of planting area and production, surpassing the hundred hectares planted last season 2015/2016 and reaching about five million kilos sold.

Concerning the forecasts for this season 2016/2017, are expected to be about 153 hectares of ecological plantation while produce will be doubled, reaching nine million kilos.

Returning to the review of last season, all crops had an increase in production. Thus, the increase in aubergine was 48%, in long cucumber 33%, in red and yellow California pepper 59% and 63% respectively, in courgette 18%, in Italian pepper 74% and in Tomato 70%. In addition, ecological mini watermelon grew by 33% and black melon 50%.

It has managed to produce the twelve months of the year aubergine, courgette, long cucumber, red and yellow california pepper, italian pepper and tomato, while the black melon and mini watermelon has been extended between May and August. In both cases, it is a very remarkable increase and at the same time, a high level of compliance with the vocation of service Agroponiente both farmers and customers.
